The 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa will take place from June 11 to July 11. The final will be on Sunday, July 11 at 20h30 Heidelberg time. The Netherlands against Spain.

There are several possibilities to watch the game in case you arrive in Heidelberg on Sunday evening.

  • Hotel rooms are typically equipped with a TV and the final will be broadcasted on ZDF, which can be received for free.
  • The old town is full of bars and restaurants that have beamers or large flat screens, cold beer, and a good atmosphere. Examples are Schnökelloch, the Brass Monkey, and many pubs in Heidelberg's famous Untere Strasse.
  • The largest public viewing site in Heidelberg's old town is the Marstall, a large student place and restaurant run by the Studentenwerk. The Marstall can host up to 5000 viewers, however it can be expected to be crowded for the final. Be sure to be there at least two, better three hours before the match to get a decent place!
  • We reserved two tables for 20 people at the restaurant Zum Spreisel. The restaurant is neighboring hotel Holländer Hof in which the invited speakers will typically stay. If you are interested in joining, please send a short email to to Sebastian Sager. I will go there at around 19h15 and pick up people from Holländer Hof.
